About this event

What if we needed someone else to show us the truth about ourselves? How far would you go to help someone see what's right in front of them?

With a haunting arrangement anchored in harpsichord and plaintive vocals, Susan's track "Anne's Dilemma" explores these themes as part of the compilation album "Loser Babies: Music Inspired by Josephine Riesman's The Last Temptation of Beck." Featuring music by Jesus Jones, Talia Billig, and AK and the Hallucinations, the songs on the album explore the rise of Beck's fame and the parallel rise of Scientology's influence on him. The album will be released on A Few Good Records on October 6.

To celebrate the album's release, Susan is hosting a concert of original songs based on books. In addition to The Last Temptation of Beck, you'll hear songs inspired by Geek Love, Missing the Solstice, For Her Own Good: Two Hundred Years of Experts' Advice to Women, and more.

About Susan:

Susan Putnins is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist based in Malmö, Sweden. Her songwriting is rooted in the dramatic storytelling, emotional dynamics, and pop/rock/jazz soup of musical theatre and songstresses such as Kate Bush and Fiona Apple. Delving into themes of truth, identity, intimacy, and conflict, often filtered through imagery rooted in the sea and the stars, she uses songwriting as a way to explore questions of empathy–especially when it is uncomfortable. Her blended concert/workshop series The View from the Faultline combines music, storytelling, meditation, and journaling to help prepare us to talk to those whose ideas we find most abominable - because they’re often who we need to change the world. Susan has been a STPLN lab member (2025), a visiting artist to Sisters Hope (2024) and frontwoman for art rock trio Starlings (2021-2024) and indie pop band The Sinister Turns (2005-2012).
