About
My name is Maria Bengtsson, and I run OWN YOUR STORY. I am an Odis-certified doula, childbirth educator, and trained pregnancy masseuse. Since 2009, I have been photographing pregnant bellies and births, as well as working with childbirth issues and early parenthood.
Since then, I have also written and published three books 📚 on the subject: *Gravid med kropp & själ* and *Föd på dina villkor*, co-authored with Victoria Häggblom (MiMa/LB förlag, March 2019), and *Revolution i BB-fabriken*, co-authored with Kristina Turner (Domeratzky förlag, November 2024).
To further support women through life's cycles, Kristina and I started the company BraĂŻdo Organics during the pandemic in 2020.
From my own experience, I know that with the right conditions, it is possible to have a fantastic and empowering birth. Therefore, I work tirelessly to ensure that ALL women can give birth on their terms and start parenthood without a traumatic birth experience behind them, as this can have profound consequences for everyone involved in the new family, especially for the baby and the woman herself.
I am passionate about highlighting and changing injustices, and I see it as a feminist calling to spread holistic knowledge and inspiration regarding women's health and our reproductive rights.
I live in beautiful Värmdö in the Stockholm archipelago with my three children. In my free time, I love to practice yoga, read, write, swim in nature, and spend time with my family and friends.
