We are so glad to welcome Alessandro Ortona back for a full weekend retreat in our beautiful shala at Uppsala Yogaskola.
The theme will be yoga from in-balance to balance-in, and Alessandro will share from his 45+years of lived yoga practice.
Yoga is a state of pure beingness, in which beingness is all that is. No comments from the chattering mind, no waves from emotional states, no fluctuations. Meditation is both the tool and the state; Yoga is meditation.
The obstacles are a restless body, a restless mind, restless emotions. The obstacle is restlessness. Techniques are tools to reduce restlessness. Some are for the body (asana), some for the mind (ajapa japa, visualization), some for emotional states (pranayama). But only an intelligent combination of these “tools” can awaken the mind in oneself—not a mechanical execution that may indeed create rest, but rest as sleep, not as awakening.
Intelligence is the main tool—not a theoretical intelligence made of information taken from external sources, but an intelligence innate to our deepest mind, which, if not awakened, lies dormant beneath the superficial, talkative mind.

We will serve tea during the weekend. If you wish to eat, you can bring something or take a short walk to a nearby store in the break.

ABOUT ALESSANDRO:
Alessandro is one of the most unique and authentic teachers of traditional Hatha Yoga. In a penetrating and direct way, he always manages to touch deeply and inspire the application of Yoga practice in everyday life, which is what ultimately makes it transformative. Eternal seeker and a great teacher.
He will enrich your yoga practice with depth and detail, often challenging what you believe and helping you see reality.
Born in Italy, in 1966, Alessandro started practicing yoga at the age of 15, under his mother’s influence. As a young boy, he was deeply touched by his meetings with the various teachers who frequently visited his home.
He met with the great yogi Sri Sri Sri Satchidananda who taught him the foundations of the ancient Hatha Yoga tradition. In Italy, he studied with Walter Ruta (Tirak) and he started teaching and supporting the development of the Pramiti Yoga School.
He also spent several years at an ashram in Athens with Swami Shivamurti Saraswati. There, he studied the principles of Karma Yoga and the traditional teachings of Satyananda. His spiritual name is Sam Buddha. He lives in Athens and teaches yoga, zen and meditation from his lived experience.
